Task 3 - Illustrative and & Visual Narrative
Lecture Reflection (3-Act Structure & Narrative Theory + Transition)
For this task, I applied the 3-act structure to create my comic. The first act introduces the main character standing in a field while looking at a mysterious dark circle in the sky. This represents confusion and curiosity, setting up the emotional tone of the story.
The second act develops the story by showing the character on a van under the night sky. This scene symbolizes movement and change, showing that the character has begun her journey to discover herself.
The final act resolves the story with the character turning back and smiling. This shows acceptance and peace, suggesting personal growth after facing uncertainty.
For transitions, I used Moment-to-Moment and Scene-to-Scene transitions. The first to second panel shifts from stillness to movement, while the second to third panel shows emotional progression and resolution.
Tutorial Reflection (Masking, Texture & Editable Text)
During Week 09 tutorial, I learned how to use masking and textures to improve the visual quality of my comic. I experimented with layering textures such as grass brushes, sky textures, and cloud overlays to create a dreamy and emotional atmosphere.
Masking helped me blend the moon and sky together without affecting other elements. I also used editable text for the title and panel organization, making it easier to adjust during the design process.
Before creating the final artwork, I made a moodboard and gathered references from anime scenery, comic panels, and cinematic artworks. These references helped me understand composition, perspective, and emotional storytelling.

A simple sketch to know what I'm working with
Story DevelopmentPanel 1 – ReflectionIn the first panel, the girl stands alone in the tall grass, staring at the strange circle in front of her. The sky is bright, but the dark center of the circle gives the scene a heavy feeling. It feels like she is looking at a memory or a part of herself she does not fully understand yet. The tree beside her, with its soft flowers, shows that even in quiet moments, life continues to grow. This panel gives a feeling of loneliness, curiosity, and deep thinking, like the beginning of a journey inside her own mind.
Panel 2 – JourneyThe second panel changes the mood. The boy (characters brother) is now sitting on top of a small van under a sky full of stars. This feels like movement, like he has decided to leave behind his doubts and search for something new. The van symbolizes freedom and adventure, while the open sky makes the world seem endless. Unlike the first panel where he was standing still, here there is progress. Even though the night looks cold and quiet, it feels peaceful. It shows that sometimes growth happens when we step out into the unknown.
Panel 3 – RealizationIn the last panel, the girl turns back and smiles. This simple expression changes everything. Her smile feels warm, like she has found peace with herself after the journey. The dark circle is still there, but it no longer feels as powerful or frightening. This shows that struggles do not always disappear, but our understanding of them can change. The soft colors and her calm face create a feeling of acceptance. It feels like the end of a story where she has grown stronger, carrying both her past and her hope for the future.
